The March of Time is my visual commentary to the theme of Ecclesiastes, written by Solomon who asked God for wisdom.  While pacing back and forth by the grave of my Grandfather, the vision for this painting came to me.  I wondered how much longer I would have to walk until my feet would have made ruts in the ground I have seen on worn, paved roads.  The theme of pacing back and forth seemed to summarize the story of life.  Life and all its vanity seem to matter not.  I show its vanity in the skin and bones of the figures and the distorted compression of all space below the heavens.  All the toil and labor that go into vanity and meaningless things wear on the beings.  The paths or ruts we walk in are the landscape on which they walk.  There is nothing new under the sun, so they walk the paths that billions have walked since the beginning of man and creature.  The wisdom in this commentary is not just that there is so much vanity, but that there is one purpose that saturates our every movement and decision to guide us to fulfillment.
