This painting is one of my favorites because I did it in honor of my Granddad who was an architect and built very fine Alaskan wooden canoes. Showing him pictures of my trip to Venice was the last thing I got to do with him. I feel the success of this painting as the emptiness, awe, and loneliness emanate from the empty streets and canals at a time of day which can always be interpreted as dawn or dusk. In my memories I find peace with this romantic image of tranquil euphoria. |
